In our NYC Museums for FREE article, we mention that the MoMA is free on Friday nights between 4:00 and 8:00pm. The free Friday nights at the MoMA are sponsored by UNIQLO. Target also sponsors free days and evenings at local NYC venues. In fact, there are a number of great and usually expensive museums around the city, which are sponsored by these companies.
By taking advantage of free Fridays and other free museum events sponsored by Target and UNIQLO, you can save yourself a ton of green. Most of the below mentioned events include more than just admission to the museum in question; many offer shows, dancing and even food. Make sure you call ahead before planning a visit. Don't miss out on this great opportunity to save money in New York City!
Museum of Modern Art - MoMA
UNIQLO Free Friday Nights8 p.m. (previously sponsored by Target)
11 West 53 Street
New York, NY 10019
As mentioned in our NYC Museums for FREE article, the MoMA is the premier gallery in the city for, well, modern art. This museum is a must see for tourists and natives alike. The exhibits are changed up frequently, so even if you've visited in the past, you should try and stop in yet again.
Typically the MoMA will cost you $25 per adult or $12 with a student ID. But, every Friday between 4:00 and 8:00pm, you can get in for FREE courtesy of UNIQLO. Get there early, though, as the gallery fills up quickly. Also take note that any special exhibit may still cost you some green.
Target First Saturdays, 5–11 p.m.
200 Eastern Parkway
Brooklyn NY, 11238
The Brooklyn Museum is yet another amazing hub of culture and art, which has a free evening sponsored by Target. The Brooklyn Museum of art is the second largest art gallery in New York and is filled with amazing exhibits which focus on different world cultures.
This particular night, aptly named “Target First Saturdays” takes place on the first Saturday night of each month. Admission does not simply allow for you to browse the museum, (although you can do that) but provides an entire night of performances, hands-on art, music, film and FREE food! That’s right. The event offers free sandwiches, salads and beverages (non-alcoholic) at their café. Don’t miss the opportunity to take part in this amazing evening and all for FREE!
Again, you should plan to get there at least an hour before the event starts to make sure you are able to get in. These events fill up fast.
You may also be interested to know that the Brooklyn Museum typically asks for a “suggested donation”. This means you may pay whatever you wish to get in on any day/night of the week. If you don’t want to look cheap, you may want to wait for the Target FREE first Saturdays or follow our strategy for not looking cheap, at the end of our NYC Museums for FREE article.

Museum of Chinese in America - MOCA
Target Free Thursdays 11am–9pm

New York NY, 10013
This amazing museum features exhibits that focus on the history of Chinese American history. The museum recently moved from its original location to Centre Street and has been able to increase its size six times over. Every Thursday is free courtesy of Target.
Thanks to Target, the MOCA offers a Special Target Free Thursdays Program Series, which typically includes the screening of a film focusing on the history of Chinese Americans.
Children's Museum of Manhattan
Target Free First Friday Nights 5pm – 8pm
212 West 83rd Street
New York, NY 10024
We all know how expensive it can be to raise a child in the city and how impossible it can be to keep them entertained! The Children’s Museum of Manhattan is a unique place at which children can take part in interactive exhibits and programs designed to inspire your little one.
On the next first Friday of the month, rather than plopping your little one down in front of the old boob-tube, you may want to take them to this wonderful and FREE place in which your child’s brain may grow!
Typically the CMM costs $10 for both children and adults.
