Are you looking for something different and free to do this weekend? Does your apartment need a new look? Why not take a short cruise from and around downtown or midtown Manhattan and past the Statue of Liberty to Brooklyn courtesy of IKEA?
That’s right. To help encourage shoppers to take the trip from Manhattan to the IKEA store in Brooklyn.
Where to Catch the IKEA Express Water Taxi
The water taxi takes you from Pier 11 at Wall Street not far from South Street Seaport to Red Hook Brooklyn. The water taxi drops you off right in front of the massive store and will take you back to the city when you are done.
About the Water Taxi
The water taxi leaves every 40 minutes. The trip lasts approximately twenty minutes from Wall Street (a bit longer from 35th Street) and allows for some beautiful views of Manhattan and the Statue of Liberty. The seating area is enclosed, so there is no need to worry if the weather is cold on the particular day you want to take the trip. On nicer days the rooftop deck is open! Stand on the roof and take in some amazing views of the city.
The Dirt Cheap Food!
Once you arrive, why not take advantage of everything the store, and the site, has to offer? Inside you’ll find a MASSIVE newly constructed store with dirt cheap, but still quality, furnishings, rugs, plants and FOOD! That’s right. For a measly $2.50 you will get two hotdogs, a bag of potatoe chips and a soda. It was more than enough to fill me up. If you’re in the mood for something different; you should try their plate of Swedish Meatballs, which comes with a large helping of meatballs, mashed potatoes and cranberry sauce; all for $5.50. Want something smaller? Try their $1.00 salad or the variety of cakes and pie.
On nicer days you may want to have a picnic outside the store near the dock. IKEA has set up a large outdoor seating area with benches, tables, and a grassy area. You can look out over the water and watch the ships come and go as you sit back and digest that $2.50 lunch you grabbed from inside.
A trip to IKEA’s Brooklyn location via their free water taxi service could be something to add to your cheap and fun to-do-list for this or an upcoming weekend.
During the summer months, the IKEA Water Taxi has its roof deck open! That means you can sit up on the roof deck and peer out over Manhattan as you’re headed to and fro the Brooklyn IKEA location. The view is amazing!
